The temperature and battery charging part one

Charging at high and low temperatures

Rechargeable laptop battery operate in a reasonably wide temperature range. However, this does not automatically allow a charge in the same temperature range. While the use of batteries in hot or cold environment can not be avoided, the users, the conditions during the load somewhat under control. The charge should be strictly carried out at moderate temperatures.

In general, older battery technologies, such as Nickel-cadmium, tolerant loading at extreme temperatures. Nickel-cadmium Apple A1045 Apple A1061 batteries can be recharged with a quick charge within approximately 1 hours. Such a fast charging should be done within the temperature range from 5 ° to 45 ° C. An even narrower temperature range from 10 ° to 25 ° C, however, yields better results.

Charging below 5 ° C caused a reduced Ladekoeffizienten of 0.1 C (one tenth of the capacity). This is in the area where oxygen and hydrogen inside the cell can be reduced. Due to the declining settings at lower temperatures, leading to a too fast charging excessive cell pressure, which can lead to a Zellenleck. Such a Apple A1148 Apple A1175 battery can be charged under these conditions fully before.

Industrial Apple iBook G4 12 inch Battery that require rapid charging at low temperatures, include a thermal circuit to keep the battery in a temperature range to be allowed. As soon as the charging temperature is lower than is produced during the loading process gas, which in turn leads to a warming, and thus improve the loading conditions. The ideal charger automatically adjusts itself so that there is a balance between gas and charging.

Nickel-metal hydrides are less tolerant than nickel-cadmium in terms of the charge at low or high temperatures. Nickel-metal-hydride can not load quickly at temperatures below 10 ° C, nor can they load slowly below 0 ° C. Some chargers are designed so that they Ladekoeffizienten and the ambient temperature change. Price considerations are not allowed to provide Apple PowerBook G4 12 inch Battery battery chargers for consumer electronics with temperature sensors.

At higher temperatures, the charge acceptance of nickel-based Apple PowerBook G4 Battery is drastically reduced. A battery that can hold at room temperature, a medium capacity of 100%, starts at 45 ° C ambient temperature, only 70%, and even only 45% at a temperature of 60 ° C. This highlights the poor performance of some car chargers in the summer!

Customer Review:

I have had other laptop batteries lasting well over two years. This one really disappointed me. It looks like in order to cut costs, Dell may have sacrificed quality.

From the looks of it, many people are having the same problem I have with the laptop battery. The battery was giving decent run times until it reached an age of about 20 months. After that, it went to about 10 minutes of run time.

While this is not an absolutely horrible lifetime, I typically have had Dell Latitude D830 Battery last about 3 to 3.5 years before this happens.

The Dell latitude D830 battery replacement reivew in Amazon:

I have a Dell D830 (purchased 1.75 years ago) & a Dell D820 laptop (purchased about 3.5 years ago). The batteries are interchangeable in these 2 and the old D820 battery has begun failing to hold charge so I bought the AGPTEK Super-Capacity Li-Ion battery. The Latitude D820 Battery arrived DOA, no status lights and neither Dell recognized it. I sent it back for $8.70 in postage and the replacement does work and so far is reporting a good charge: 3.5-4 hours in the Dell D830, which is about the same as the 1.5 year old battery reports. The replacement is only a month from manufacture if I read the code AGPTek pasted on it (it has 20090720 embedded in it), and both the dud and the replacement fit well in both my Dells. However with the cost of shipping the dead battery back this battery was not such a bargain.

Purchased the Dell Latitude D820 Battery in Nov 2008 and it worked as advertised for between 6 and 7 months. At that point it quickly lost the ability to hold a charge. It still works in that my laptop can run for about 15 minutes on the battery, however the battery has bottomed out and only accepts ~20% of the capacity it had when new.

My experience with original Dell batteries is that they last about 18 months, however the cost is much higher.

This replacement battery for a Dell Latitude D830 Battery lasted 3 months before the charge wouldn’t last more than an hour. The original battery would run for 3.5-4 hours on a charge, and lasted for over a year. Now at 5 months on this battery, the computer tells me that my battery is “reaching the end of its useful life”.

Electric vehicle battery support skills

1. Dont store the Electric vehicle battery in powerless

It is prohibited that store the laptop battery in a state of loss. State power loss is the failure to charge battery in time after use. Stored in the battery state of loss, it is prone to sulfate and lead sulfate crystals attached to the pole on the board, plug the electric ion channels, resulting in under-charging, the battery capacity decline. Idle state power loss the longer the more serious battery damage. Therefore, the battery should be charged fully once a month when not in use, so that the battery can keep in a good health state.

2. regular inspection in time

In the use of process, if the continued line of electric vehicles in a short period of time a sudden drop in mileage of more than ten kilometers, it is likely that the battery pack at least one battery cell appears broken, soft plate, plate active material shedding phenomenon, such as short-circuit . At this point, the battery should be repaired in time to the professional bodies to check, repair or distribution group. This can be relatively extended life Dell laptop battery to maximize cost savings.

3. avoid large current discharge

Electric cars at the starting line, manned, uphill, please use pedal power to help avoid a momentary high-current discharge. High-current discharge easily lead to lead sulfate crystallization, to the detriment of the physical properties of the laptop battery plate.

4. keeping right charging time

In the use of process, should be based on the actual situation accurately grasp the charging time, frequency and use of reference normal mileage situation and pay attention to the capacity of the battery manufacturers to provide the size of note, as well as matching the performance of the charger, the charge current to grasp the size of charging parameters Pavilion DV1000 battery HP Pavilion DV4000 battery such as frequency . Generally batteries are recharged at night, with an average charging time in about eight hours. If shallow discharge (charge mileage after a very short period), the battery will soon be full of and continue to charge-off charge will appear, and that leads to cell loss, fever, lower battery life. Therefore, in order to discharge the HP laptop battery depth of -70% to 60% when an electric charge the best, the actual use can be converted into cycling mileage, according to the need to charge the actual situation, to avoid charging damage.

5. prevent exposure

Electric vehicles is prohibited under the sun exposure. Environment temperature is too high will increase the internal pressure of the battery cell pressure limiting valve automatically opens, is a direct consequence of the loss of water to increase the Toshiba laoptop battery, and battery cell over-activity of water is bound to trigger a decline to speed up the plate to soften, charging shell body fever, from drum shell, deformation, such as a fatal injury.

6. avoid charging plug fever

Charger output plug loose contact will lead to the phenomenon of oxidation, such as charging plug fever, fever for too long will lead to short-circuit plug charging, direct damage to the Sony laptop battery charger, lead to unnecessary losses. So when found out that the situation should be promptly or replace the connector to remove oxides.

How to maintain a digital camera

1. A digital camera is a precision equipment, proper maintenance can extend its working life.

2. You should always clean up. You need to use external soft lint cloth, memory card slot of the battery should also be frequently with a soft brush or blow the balloon to clear the dust.

3. Digital camera battery generally have multi-coated lens to compare effemination, would accidentally scratch coating. Generally do not move it, it is necessary only need to be cleaned up, a little bit of dust, generally will not affect the imaging results. If we are not careful the camera on the left hand, it should be cleared as soon as possible because it is a damaged lens. Normally should be particularly careful to protect the lens and the surface of the lens with a very fragile, especially when gently wipe the correct way is: first blow balloon blowing dust, and then drawcircle professional lens cleaning paper, using the BG-E3 grip.

4. There will always be a digital camera with sophisticated electrical systems, more vulnerable, so to avoid high temperature, strong shock and drop from a height, do not suddenly from hot to cold outdoor room. What must be avoided water, fell into the water. Million accidentally soiled water, they should immediately turn off the power supply, wipe dry and then boot, in the case of the use of fog rain put a plastic bag and BG-E5 battery grip.

5. Kept a digital camera should avoid direct sunlight or high temperatures, but also to avoid a room on the wet. To stay away from dust, powder, sand and so on. Antimagnetic also, especially not on television, radio, refrigerators and other household electrical appliances. Long-term need to be taken out the battery Grip because the battery will be leakage, corrosion camera.

6. Although the digital camera is compact, easy to carry on the pocket, but it do not forget to wear a protective clothing ah, in case of multi-tap the touch ah distressed. You can use small Camera put it together, can also be fitted to other attachments nikon D40 battery grip, it is not very convenient?

Digital camera LCD screen is also the most likely to wash hands and clean have to be careful too, because in general there is a layer of LCD-plated anti-glare film, this coating has been damaged can not repair. Do not put pressure on, otherwise the screen will be damaged or malfunction.

7. The laptop battery stored in a dark dry place. The existence of the camera should also be dry, well-ventilated place. If long storage, can have the camera in a plastic bag with desiccant. Desiccant to absorb moisture will be lost after the results, to be replaced regularly and often to check out the camera, pressed the shutter a number of boot.

Notebook battery fully charge and discharge error

Notebook battery fully charge and discharge error

Notebook computer equipped with the original battery, after a period of time after use, there will inevitably be the case of standby time. Some users said: “depth with repeated charge-discharge method, be able to resume the performance of the battery, thereby extending the battery life.

To a correct understanding of this issue, start a notebook about the type of laptop battery used. As we all know, in 1995, before the production of notebook computers are basically used to power nickel-cadmium batteries. In the use of such batteries, if not the correct way of charging and discharging, the battery will have a “memory effect”, thereby reducing the battery’s actual capacity, the elimination of this “memory effect” is the best way to repeatedly charge and discharge depth manner. With the emergence of nickel-hydrogen batteries, battery capacity has improved significantly, but the “memory effect” did not completely eliminate the shortcomings.

In recent years, lithium-ion batteries in notebook computers has been rapidly increasing, largely as a result of lithium-ion batteries have been the elimination of the “memory effect” problem, it is used repeatedly to restore the depth of latitude D800 battery charge-discharge performance of the method is not applied. But why lithium-ion battery capacity or the will to reduce the problem? Have a fundamental reason for this situation is used in notebook computers and the original lithium-ion battery in the built-in battery management systems.

Battery Management: At present, in notebook computers, almost all adopted the “battery management” and “charge-discharge control” of two chip-level management systems. The “battery management chip” placed in the notebook computer itself, the chip registers in the memory of the computer used in the capacity of lithium-ion inspiron 8600 battery, operating temperature, ID serial number, charge-discharge state, the cumulative number of charge-discharge and other important information. In the use of these data, the need to constantly refresh the actual situation. The battery built-in “chip control charge and discharge” the most important role is to monitor and control the battery charge and discharge the entire process and be documented.

Charge: Lithium-ion rechargeable battery the whole process is divided into “fast charge constant-current” and “reduced charge constant current” two stages. The so-called “constant current fast charge” means charge has just begun, the charge current and charge voltage to follow a fixed battery terminal voltage gradually increased until they reach their nominal voltage of the charging method. When the inspiron 630m battery terminal voltage has reached the standard value, the controller will automatically turn into “reduced charge constant current” phase, when the charging voltage will no longer continue to rise, while the charge current to follow the battery capacity is rising gradually diminishing, and eventually reach zero, so they all completed a GK479 GD761 battery charging process.

At the same time, the charge generated by the process of charging voltage, current and time data curves will be recorded in the VGP-BPS5 battery’s “charge-discharge control chip” of the memory. “Battery management chip” is through access to th

ese data, calculated by the sample data such as battery capacity, which is, in Battery Information in numerical Wh read.

Fixed: After repeated charging and discharging the HP DV2000 battery after use, its built-in chip in the charge-discharge data will of course be changed. If at this time “battery management chip” has no chance to re-read the newer, more complete data, it calculated the battery capacity will not be accurate of course, to the user the feeling seems to be reducing the capacity of the Satellite A100 battery, and the fact that the actual capacity of the battery has not really reduced. Some bring their own brand of rechargeable laptop management software working principle, the process is in charge refresh “charge-discharge control chip” memory of the data, thus ensuring the “battery management chips,” the correctness of calculations.

A close look if you have the use of laptop manuals, will be found that “a month in the use of computer time, should make a full laptop battery charge and discharge operation” note. Its main purpose is to use the depth of charge and discharge the way to amend the charge and discharge control chip register data in the curve so that the battery charge control and battery nominal capacity and the actual situation, as a result the correct value of the battery capacity.

The truth about notebook battery

The truth about notebook battery

It’s one of the most important and least understood parts of your notebook—and it provokes so many unanswered questions. Why do laptop batteries gradually lose their ability to hold a charge? Why does it takes longer for a charging notebook to go from 80 to 100 percent charge than it does to go from zero to 80 percent? What’s the difference between a three-cell and a six-cell battery? Rather than shrug our shoulders for another day, we demanded answers from two experts, Matt Kohut, worldwide competitive analyst at Lenovo; and John Wozniak, Ph.D. distinguished technologist at HP.

LAPTOP: At what point during Presario 2100 battery life cycle does a typical notebook battery last longest?

Kohut: The industry average is about 30 percent degradation per year. You’ll probably start to notice after about six months.

John Wozniak: Batteries tend to fade pretty quickly over the first 10 or 20 cycles, and then capacity levels off.

How long does a typical notebook battery last?

Kohut: Roughly, 350 charge cycles. A cycle is cumulative use that reaches 70 percent degradation, or seven times when 90 percent of the battery capacity was used.

What causes a battery to lose capacity over time?

Wozniak: Think of a Presario 2500 battery as having pores, where the electrons flow back and forth between the cathode and the anode. When those pores get clogged, you can’t move the electrons as efficiently anymore. Then the lithium gets bound up on one side or the other, and it no longer contributes to the movement of electrons. It gets backed up.

Do you need to build up a battery memory, or condition it, to get the best performance?

Kohut: This was true in the lithium-metal hydride days, however, with a standard lithium-ion battery, you just need to make sure you charge it fully. Most batteries ship from the manufacturers with an 80 percent charge.

Conditioning, meaning draining the battery to zero and then charging HP ZE4400 battery fully while Windows monitors it, resets the curve. It doesn’t prolong the battery’s life, but it improves accuracy [of the battery monitor]. Over time, the accuracy drifts in the Windows program that measures battery life. That is why it can say that you suddenly went from 80 to 20 percent in five minutes.

How much can you trust the charge status that Windows gives you?

Kohut: If the battery reports full, Windows says it is full. Windows periodically checks the battery, but it is more of a thumbs-up/thumbs-down than a real assessment. Windows is crude; trust it if it’s full, trust it if it’s empty. But know that it doesn’t have the communication to know that the Pavilion DV2000 battery degrades over time. We recommend the Lenovo Power Manager, because it has a lot more smarts. It knows the status of each individual cell, whether it’s balanced, imbalanced, charging, not charging, etc.

John Wozniak: If the BIOS is written correctly, Windows is really accurate; within 1 to 2 percent. The problem is how often it updates.

When charging a notebook, why does the last 5 to 10 Percent take longer than the first 85 to 90 percent?

Kohut: If the EVO N400C battery is low, we will charge it at a faster rate. But when the battery fills up, we back off, because it’s the last bit of charging that causes the issues to form. Other vendors that do rapid charge still back off around the last 10 percent. Dell, for example, does fast charge, pedal to the metal, from zero to 80 percent. Then backs off and coasts into the finish line. Lenovo starts fast, but backs off more and more through the entire charge. This allows for a more even rate of charge. It takes longer overall, but it helps the battery’s longevity.

Some notebooks won’t start charging unless the battery is below a certain level, SAY, 95 percent. Why is that?

Kohut: Charging it to 100 percent every time adds cycles that cause the inspiron 1525 battery to wear out faster. In the typical office situation, you’re plugged in 100 percent all day. Then you take it home, and plug it in again, after losing maybe only 2 percent. If you charge to 100 percent again, you start adding cycles that wear out the battery because you’re initiating a full charge cycle. The thought behind our process is that unless the battery gets below a certain percentage, don’t put it through the stress of charging.

How important is the number of cells in determining battery capacity?

Kohut: The three-, six, nine-celled battery is shorthand for explaining how much laptop battery life a machine has, but watt-hours hours determine capacity. The average consumer has no clue that a nine-cell battery has around 84-watt-hours of power, they just know it’s a nine-cell. One of Lenovo’s competitor’s has two six-cell batteries—a 53-watt-hour and a 47-watt-hour. The second doesn’t deliver the same capacity. To really understand how much power a battery will hold, you need to look at the watt-hours.

Some vendors are advertising two- or three-cell batteries that claim a longer life than six-cell models. Is that possible?

Kohut: There is a fine line. Ibook G3 Battery VGP-BPS2C capacity has gone up in the past few years by making the cells more energy-dense. There used to be 2 amp hour (Ah) cells, but now cells go up to 2.9 amps. If you can control the higher concentration of energy in the smaller space, it’s not a problem. But sometimes this results in violent reactions such as overheating and over-charging. [If a vendor claims its battery lasts a long time with fewer cells,] you want to ask how many watt-hours the pack holds, and about the kind of cells (2.6, 2.9 Ah, etc.).

Should consumers trust third-party batteries?

Kohut: We’ll warranty our own batteries, but if you put a third-party battery in, you void the warranty. That’s because there are good Powerbook G4 battery manufacturers and there are bad ones. Some of the good ones are Panasonic, Sanyo, and Sony. A less reputable company will buy whatever is cheapest, and just drop it in there. The reason a lot of the battery incidents occur in this industry is because of quality control.

We always say that you are taking [the life of your notebook] into your own hands when you buy a third-party battery pack. Yes, you are saving some money up-front but you don’t have the backing of the company behind it.

Thinkpad 60 Series “frozen to death” (freeze) solution

Freezing to death is not clear as characteristics, mainly performance freeze, screen images can be seen, but can not operate as if time stopped, the Thinkpad T40 battery hard disk light does not flash, other lights lit normal, press the power button can only be forced to restart, restart without self-test. Take it to service station hardware, the operation shows all normal. This may not be Thinkpad X60 battery probelm, but Core 2 series processor problems. Thinkpad currently address these issues, and Intel have been carried out corresponding measures. Of course, this does not solve the fundamental problem of freezing to death, but has been greatly eased, and so will be to minimize the probability of occurrence 851uy 75uyf 1k500.

Solve this problem in five steps:

Step one: Upgrade BIOS, Lenovo officials online have the latest BIOS version 2.19
Download link, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-63024,
Of course, also mentioned the need to upgrade, and strongly recommended, which the BIOS upgrade in the history of Thinkpad X60S battery is also relatively rare. BIOS upgrade would not say, and in accordance with the step by step readme on the list, no less dangerous, but should pay attention to the battery and AC must be used to prevent power outages, upgrade other programs to close, remember to turn off antivirus software and firewall 851UY 75UYF 1K500.

The second step, Intel dual-core patch upgrade, download links
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256/zh-cn, even after the patch upgrade some manual operation, see the details, http://publish.it168.com/2007/0425/20070425015807. shtml.

The third step is to upgrade Intel micro-code of your thinkpad T60 battery, download link
http://www.microsoft.com/downloa … 0 & displaylang = zh-cn, the most simple, you can click Run.

The fourth step, upgrading your Thinkpad T61 battery graphics card driver, download links
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62841

The fifth step, upgrade the Thinkpad battery power management process, the download link

Notebook Battery daily maintenance FAQ

Notebook Battery daily maintenance FAQ

Note that these steps correspond with decision points on the flowchart and are reached directly by clicking on the diamond symbols. The text below cannot be read sequentially.

Needs AC Adapter to boot? The first step in troubleshooting your inspiron e1705 battery is determining whether it can hold enough charge to boot the notebook. Will the laptop power up and run on the battery, or does the AC adapter which doubles as the laptop battery charger need to be plugged in? Modern notebooks usually have a whole array of status LEDs that will tell you if the laptop senses good power coming from the battery charger and whether or not the battery is charging. Unfortunately, there’s no universal standard for these LEDs, their colors or their actions. Note also that we’re using the term “boot” rather loosely here. If the laptop powers up on battery, you can hear the fans and the drives, your troubleshooting problem lies elsewhere.

Life Of Battery Too Short? This is the main problem laptop owners complain about, and often for good cause. Older laptops using Ni-Cad and early Ni-MH inspiron 6400 batteries often ran for 2.5 to 3.5 hours when brand new, but within a month or so, would barely keep the notebook powered up for an hour. Newer laptops using Ni-MH and Li-ION batteries are much better, often holding onto a three hour life through hundreds of charge and discharge cycles. The first line of defense against complaints about battery life by the manufacturers is always, “Did you charge and operate the battery according to the manual?” Unfortunately, different laptop manufacturers seem to disagree over how to best treat GD761 batteries of the same technology, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the differences extend to different models from the same manufacturer.

If the laptop’s Dell D610 battery life has been slowly degrading over time, it’s probably operating more or less in accordance with plan, but if you find the operating life shortened by more than 15% or 20% within the first few months, there’s probably something wrong. Batteries of all technologies can be “trained” to perform poorly through non-ideal usage patterns, but the Li-ION battery technology is pretty resistant, and as long as you run them all the way down once a month or so, you can probably prevent any serious charging memory issues.

Is Battery New? Purchasers of brand-new laptops are often surprised to find the battery is dead, or runs down very quickly. Even if the a1175 battery was fully charged when the laptop was boxed for shipment, that box may have been sitting in a warehouse for six months or a year before you purchased it in a store, more than enough time for a notebook battery to self discharge to an appreciable degree, even if it’s not being drawn upon. If the battery isn’t new, and you just received the laptop as a hand-me-down or purchased it second hand, there’s no reason to expect that a short Ibook G4 battery life is due to anything other than an aged battery. You can try to recondition the battery (see the laptop manufacturer website for for software that may be available), but odds are the battery simply can’t hold a charge the way it did when it was new.

User Condition Powerbook G4 Battery? Some manufacturers may condition the battery before installation in the laptop, others expect you to read the owners manual instructions and do it yourself in the first few days you own the laptop. The most general procedure is to charge the battery fully before use (leaving it on the AC battery charger overnight is best), and then to run exclusively on battery until the battery is discharged. Some brands suggest you run until the operating system warns of low battery life remaining, which could be anywhere from 10% to 3% remaining on standard settings. Others recommend that you run the laptop until it shuts itself down. This doesn’t mean that you have to sit there working for three or four hours, you can run the Macbook Pro battery down over multiple sessions over multiple days. The important thing is not to plug the AC power adapter back in and start recharging the battery until it is completely run down. The condition process generally requires you to go through this cycle three times in a row.

Runs Always With aspire 3000 Battery? If the owners manual for your notebook suggests removing the battery when plugged in for prolonged periods, doing so may greatly prolong the battery life in terms of both charge cycles and years. Personally, I tend to be lazy and just leave the battery in all the time, despite the fact I almost always work plugged in. The battery life on the first couple Toshiba’s I owned dropped down to a half hour or so of running time within a few months my buying them, so it may have been my fault. Li-ION Aspire 3000 batteries are much more friendly to poor power management habits, but you should run them down to empty once a month to keep them from developing a memory.

Battery conditioning means training the individual LCBTP03003 battery cells into a pattern of giving as much power as they can and accepting the largest charge that they can. It would take an advanced chemistry text and a person much smarter than I to describe the underlying reasons for battery memory, and the techniques for best charging and storing batteries sometimes contradict one another. Once a laptop battery pack is conditioned, you may still need to run it all the way down once a month for best performance, especially if you normally work with the laptop plugged in. It’s important to read the owners manual section on battery life, because different models ship with different battery technologies, and the best practices to extend the battery life may not be the same.
